Panthers Fall to No. 2 Seed South Alabama

MOBILE, ALA – No. 7 seed Georgia State fell to No. 2 seed South Alabama, 10-2 (5), in the first round of double elimination games of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Wednesday at Jaguar Field
 
The Panthers (20-32) will now take on the UT Arlington Mavericks in an elimination game Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. Watch on ESPN+ or follow along with live stats.

Sophie Mooney hit her fourth home run of the season for the Panthers. In the top of the fourth inning, Bailee Richardson singled, and then Mooney blasted one off the foul pole and bringing Richardson home to tie the game at 2-2.
  
But the Jaguars (25-19) immediately responded, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
South Alabama starter Olivia Lackie, one of the top pitchers in the conference, was outstanding, allowing just two hits while striking out 11 with no walks in the 5-inning complete game. The host Jaguars move on to face No. 3 seed Texas State in a winners bracket game Thursday at 2 p.m. ET.
