Ryerson, Boynton Homer to Back Shutout Pitching in 15-0 Win over Villanova

ATLANTA -- Max Ryerson hit his fifth home run of the season and Georgia State pitchers Brandom Kaminer, Trey Horton and Dawson Sweatt combined for the five-hit shutout as the Panthers (5-5) blanked Villanova 15-0 Friday at the GSU Baseball Complex.

The 15-0 margin is Georgia State's largest shutout victory since a 16-0 win over Coppin State in 2016.

Kaminer, the left-hander from Coral Springs, Fla., started and pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out five. Horton was just as effective out of the bullpen with three scoreless frames on two hits and five strikeouts. Sweatt finished the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, including one strikeout, giving the GSU staff 11 punchouts on the night against just two walks.

Ryerson went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI. His Sun Belt Conference-leading fifth homer was a two-run shot in the fourth inning, and he also stroked two doubles.

Luke Boynton drove in three runs with a double and a two-run homer, his first of the season.

Cameron Jones, DeAngelo Abboud and Blaine Marchman drove in two runs each, while Dalton Pearson, JoJo Jackson and Kyle Hilton also got into the RBI column.

Every starter had at least one hit as the Panthers pounded out a season-high 18 hits.

Villanova dropped to 1-7 on the season.

The series continues with a 1 p.m. game Saturday at the GSU Baseball Complex.
