First Look at 2022 Panthers at Friday's Blue-White Spring Game

ATLANTA -- After a record-setting 2021 season, the Georgia State football team wraps up spring practice for 2022 with the annual Blue-White Spring Game on Friday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at Center Parc Stadium.

Admission is free, and free parking is available in the Green Lot. Click here to RSVP.

Head coach Shawn Elliott's Panthers, who feature 10 returning All-Sun Belt Conference players, have worked this spring to build on their success of last season, when Georgia State won a school-record eight games, capped by the program's third consecutive bowl berth and second straight bowl victory.

"Everybody's in a really good mood, because the sun is out, the temperatures are warm and we've got our Spring Game on Friday night," Elliott said as he enters his sixth season at GSU. "We've had a really good spring, and we're ready to go out and set the bar high for this upcoming season."

The Panthers have 18 starters returning and a roster than includes 10 super seniors taking advantage of an extra year of eligibility, allowing the coaches to spend much of the spring developing depth.

"I've learned we've got a lot of talented younger players on our football team," Elliott said. "We're an experienced, older team. We've got some guys who have played for a long time. We return four starting offensive linemen, for example, and they didn't get many reps at all this spring while these younger guys got a substantial number of reps.

"So we found that we have a lot more players who can play at a high level than just these guys who have been playing the past few years."

Georgia State set school records with 38 sacks and 92 tackles for loss in 2021, and that should again be a strength for the defense.

"Two guys who really stand out for me are Jeff Clark and Thomas Gore on the defensive front," Elliot said. "[Outside linebacker] Jamil Muhammad has really stepped up his game, and I think he is going to be one of the dominant rushers that we have. He works extremely hard and is a great leader for us."

At running back, the Panthers return two proven commodities from the No. 8 rushing attack in FBS in Tucker Gregg and Jamyest Williams, the All-Sun Belt duo who combined for 1,812 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. But there is plenty more talent in the running back room.

"We've already got really good running backs, and Marcus Carroll has had a phenomenal spring," Elliott said. "That's awesome to see, especially for a head coach who likes to run the football a little bit.

"The improvement is evident everywhere," Elliott continued. "Every single day you could see someone getting better and earning the opportunity to get in there."
