Panthers Secure Victory Over Kennesaw State with Match-Clinching Performance from Shubladze

Kennesaw, Ga.- Coming off a weekend road trip to Florida that saw the Panthers drop consecutive matches, the Georgia State men's tennis team returned to play against Kennesaw State on Friday. Returning in his first match back with the team following an injury, senior Vazha Shubladze secured a win in the third position and clinched the match for GSU en route to a victory over KSU, 4-2.

GSU opened match play by securing a point in doubles with victories in the No. 3 position by Patrick Lazo and Diego Padilha, 6-2, as well as Roberts Grinvalds and Andrei Duarte, 6-2, in the No. 1 position. Partners Grinvalds and Duarte entered the match having knocked off the No. 5 ranked doubles pair in the nation a weekend prior against Miami.

Kevin Huynh secured a second point for the Panthers with a victory, 6-4, 6-3, in court position No. 4 and Harvey Maughan earned the team an additional third point following his win, 6-2, 6-3, in the team's fifth position.

The Sun Belt men's tennis Player of the Year in 2021, Shubladze's return to competition on Friday marked his first outing of the spring 2022 season. Competing in court position No. 3 for the Panthers, Shubladze overcame five match-deciding points to claim a three-set victory, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Shubladze's match-clinching point sealed the victory for GSU as the Panthers wrapped up the first of three matches slated for the weekend.
