Getting To Know: Graduate Transfer Tyler Lindgren

As Georgia State beach volleyball prepares to open the spring 2022 season, our 'Getting To Know' segments have introduced the Sandy Panthers' four new graduate transfers as they get set to compete with the team. With GSU opening its season in New Orleans on Friday, the final installment introduces graduate transfer Tyler Lindgren.

Joining the Georgia State beach volleyball team as a graduate transfer from Temple University, Tyler Lindgren enters the spring 2022 season with the Panthers following a decorated career with the Owls. The native of Fort Collins, Colo. received numerous awards and accolades in her time competing with Temple including being named to the American Athletic Conference Championship All-Tournament Team in 2020 as well as American Classic All-Tournament Team honors in 2019. Lindgren was also the AAC Offensive Player of the Week in 2020.

Excelling on both the court and in the classroom, Lindgren graduated in three years from Temple while earning a degree in health professions. In hopes of attending PA school and beginning her career as a physician assistant, Lindgren is currently working to obtain the prerequisite courses needed to enter the program while logging patient care hours and shadowing.

No stranger to the city having completed her undergraduate studies in Philadelphia, Lindgren says what she has enjoyed most about her move to Atlanta has been having the opportunity to explore a new city while sampling the local restaurants and coffee shops.

Prior to moving to the city for college, Lindgren grew up in Colorado where she had the opportunity to go skiing frequently with her family. She recounts these memories as some of the fondest throughout her childhood. In her free time, Lindgren enjoys spending time with friends, relaxing at home and going out to eat.

Drawing inspiration from two of her aunts that played collegiate volleyball at The University of Kansas as well as The University of Kentucky, Lindgren quickly became motivated to pursue her own career in volleyball growing up. With Lindgren's aunt serving as her club volleyball coach beginning at a young age, the graduate transfer credits much of the development of her athletic abilities and mental game to her aunt.

Transitioning from indoor volleyball to beach volleyball, Lindgren says the process has been both fun as well as challenging.

"Beth and Tiff, as well as the team, have been so supportive and have pushed me throughout this transition period," Lindgren says. "It has resulted in so much personal growth. My role on this team looks a lot different than it did at my previous program, so I'm working to be the best teammate, friend and partner that I can be!"

Lindgren says the coaching staff creates an extremely supportive team environment while also maintaining a high level of play, and that the positive team setting is what drew her to beach volleyball at GSU.

GSU will open its season this weekend in New Orleans, La. at the Green Wave Invitational. Matches begin on Friday, Feb. 25 as the Panthers face Tulane at 10:30 a.m. ET.
