Panthers Fall at Sun Belt Leader Troy 67-56

Troy, Ala. -- Georgia State fell at Sun Belt Conference leader Troy 67-56 Thursday at Trojan Arena.

Ashley Foster led the Panthers (8-14, 2-8 Sun Belt) with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Taniyah Worth added eight points, four rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Panthers led by as many as eight points in the first half and were within three points with seven minutes to play before Troy (19-7, 10-2 Sun Belt) pulled away.

Georgia State got off to a good start and ended the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 16-9 lead after one period. In that first quarter, the Panthers held Troy to 3-for-18 shooting from the field. In the second, a trey by Kamryn Dziak gave GSU a 24-17 lead with 2:56 left in the first half, but Troy reponded with an 11-3 spurt to take a 28-27 lead into the locker room. Troy post player Felmas Koranga scored eight of the 11 points.

The Panthers stayed within striking distance in the third quarter before falling behind 53-44 early in the fourth. But GSU then scored six straight, pulling within 53-50 on Nyla Jean's basket with seven minutes left. But Troy regained control with five straight points and the Panthers could get no closer.

Eleven different players got into the scoring column for Georgia State, including six points for Alex Gitchenko and five for Hannah Sadler. Tehya Lyons had five assists and tied her career high with four steals.
