Panthers Struggle in First Road Test at Northeastern

BOSTON -- Georgia State's first road game of the season proved to be a tough afternoon as the cold-shooting Panthers struggled throughout a 66-46 loss at Northeastern Sunday at Matthews Arena.

"No excuses," head coach Jonas Hayes said. "Northeastern was the more physical and determined team, and they took it to us. This was another growth opportunity, to see how we handled the adversity of going on the road. Success and progress is not a straight line, there are a lot of dips and curls, so we will keep putting one foot in front of the other and getting better."

The Panthers (5-4) could never get untracked offensively, managing to shoot just 28 percent from the field, including 1-for-20 from 3-point range.

Ja'Heim Hudson was the Panthers' top scorer with 11 points, along with eight rebounds. Brenden Tucker scored 10 points, and Jamaine Mann added nine, including Georgia State's lone trey, which came with 5:37 left to keep alive the program's string of consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer, which has now reach 839 games. The last time Georgia State failed to hit a 3-pointer was Feb. 18, 1995.

Jahmyl Telfort led Northeastern (2-6) with 20 points. Alexander Nwagha had 15 points and 14 rebounds as the Huskies outrebounded Georgia State 50-24.

"We got away from playing hard, and never established our physicality and effort," Hayes said. "We're going to have a lot of time to reflect, so we're going to do a deep dive. We're going to autopsy this one."

With fall semester exams coming up, the Panthers will be off for 10 days before playing at Auburn Dec. 14.
