ATLANTA – Five Panthers scored in double-figures with three hitting their career-highs as Georgia State thrashed Toccoa Falls 91-52 at the GSU Convocation Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Joe Jones III had the best game of his career, leading all Panther scorers with a career-high 18 points off the bench. After missing the last two seasons due to injury, the redshirt-sophomore from Buffalo, N.Y. shot 8-of-11 from the floor and grabbed 10 rebounds to record his first career double-double.
Jamall Clyce scored a career-high 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting with six rebounds, including five on the offensive glass, and
Kaleb Scott just missed a double-double in the final seconds with 10 points and nine rebounds in his first start of the season.
Evan Johnson also reached double-figures with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 3-of-6 from three, and
Dwon Odom scored 12 points on 6-of-9 from the floor.
Georgia State raced out to a quick 15-0 lead in the first seven minutes and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire from start to finish. The Panthers led 31-5 with 8:43 left in the first half and 48-18 at halftime, and led by as many as 42 in the second half.
GSU shot 51.4 percent from the floor and held Toccoa Falls to 36.4 percent. The Panthers also dominated the glass 52-22, including a whopping 20-4 on the offensive boards while dishing out 21 assists.
All 10 available players saw action for Georgia State including freshman
Jalen Bouknight, who nailed his first career basket with 30 seconds left to cap off all the scoring.
The Panthers will open up Sun Belt Conference play at home against James Madison on December 29. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
