Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Odom Scores 27 to Lead 74-68 Win Over UNC Asheville

ATLANTA -- Dwon Odom scored a career-high 27 points and Danny Stubbs added 16 points, also a career best, to lead Georgia State to a 74-68 win over UNC Asheville in the third game of the Capitol Classic Presented by Legacy Sunday at the GSU Convocation Center.

Odom was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament as he averaged 21 points and seven rebounds for the three games.

Today Odom played more than 39 minutes and hit 10-of-18 shots from the field and 7-for-7 at the free throw line. He also contributed seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

With the Panthers (4-2) playing without starting guards Evan Johnson and Brenden Johnson due to injury for the second straight game, Stubbs stepped in with easily the most productive game of his career, and so did Kalik Brooks with a career-high 12 points.

"What can you say about guys?" GSU head coach Jonas Hayes said. "For us to come out here in our third straight game, after taking such a heart-breaking loss the other day, and for us to respond with the type of effort we had to have to finish this thing off, that is what will allow us to have sustainable success. To be unflappable, to be undeterred, to be committed, to be convicted to doing whatever is necessary to come out on the winning end, that's what I love about the guys in our locker room. I don't know what else to say, other than that I love these dudes."

The game featured 12 lead changes and nine ties, the last one at 54-all before Jamaine Mann's layup gave the Panthers the lead for good with 4:14 to play. Mann also took GSU's next shot and missed, but freshman Edward Nnamoko grabbed the offensive rebound and stuck it back for a 58-54 lead with 3:36 to play.

The Panthers held off the Bulldogs (3-2) by hitting 13 of 14 free throws in the final minute, including 6-of-7 by Stubbs. Georgia State went 16-for-17 at the line for the game and 36-of-39 on the weekend.

UNC Asheville standouts Tajion Jones (21 points) and Drew Pember (20 points) combined for 41 of the team's 68 points.

Georgia State is off until next Sunday, Nov. 27, when the Panthers host Belmont at 2 pp.m. at the GSU Convocation Center.
