Gilmore Selected by Houston in XFL Draft

ATLANTA -- Former Georgia State offensive line standout Shamarious Gilmore was selected by the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL Draft, held this week.

The 2023 XFL Draft is the player selection process to fill the rosters of the eight teams of the 2020 reboot of the XFL. The draft was conducted in phases by position group, and Gilmore was chosen with Houston's third offensive line selection.

Gilmore completed his career at Georgia State in 2021 as a five-year starter at left guard and one of only two five-time all-conference players in Sun Belt Conference history, including first-team honors in 2020 and 2021.

Following the 2022 NFL Draft, he signed as undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks and attended the team's training camp until he was released in late August.

He was a two-time team captain who set school records with 60 games played and 59 starts, including 51 in a row. He started four bowl games, also a first in GSU history.

Gilmore was a key figure in the top four rushing seasons in program history in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. He helped the Panthers average 223 yards rushing over his last three seasons, including a school-record 241.6 yards in 2019, and was also part of school records as GSU offense averaged 33.3 points per game in 2020 and 439.8 yards of total offense in 2019.

The 2023 XFL season is the league's second season, the first planned under its new ownership group of Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Gerry Cardinale, and the third in the history of the XFL brand created and originally owned by Vince McMahon. The season is expected to start on February 18, 2023.
