Broom Puts Down 7 Blocks in Panthers 3-1 Win over Warhawks

Georgia State snapped their losing streak on Thursday night in a 3-1 win over the ULM Warhawks (26-24, 18-25, 25-22, 25-10). The Panthers tallied 11 team blocks on the night, led by Kayla Broom's 7.
 
The opening set was tight with eight tie scores and six lead changes. The largest lead of set one came when the Panthers went up 22-17. The Warhawks were able to battle back, going on a 6-0 run and earn set point at 22-24. A Crystal Galaviz kill saved the set point, before Erin Wyatt would give the Panthers their own set point. The Panthers won the opening set, 26-24.
 

 
The Warhawks got out to hot start in the second set, going up 7-3 early. Despite the Panthers saving three set points, the Warhawks won set two 25-18.
 
Set three was similar to the first with nine tie scores and two lead changes. Tied up at 10-all, the Panthers went on a 3-0 scoring run which proved to be enough as the Panthers won the set by a 3-point margin, 25-22.
 

 
The Panthers carried that momentum into the fourth set with an Izzy Durnell kill giving the Panthers an early 6-3 lead. The Panthers then went on a 10-1 scoring run in the middle of the set, highlighted by tough serving from Livy Kowalkowsi and Jenna Brown alongside multiple kills from Isabelle Percoco and Julianna Truscott. The Panthers would close out the set (25-10) and the match (3-1) with an Ava Vlkovic ace.
 


Truscott led all players on the court with 16 kills. Wyatt finished with 15 kills, seven digs, and five blocks. Broom put down seven blocks and seven kills. Durnell notched eight kills and three blocks, while Percoco notched six kills and three blocks. Galaviz recorded four kills and a solo block. Kowalkowski and Ryan Spicer-Gordon tallied 19 and 11 digs respectively. Jenna Brown and Maren Palmer dished out 29 and 17 assists respectively. Brown and Vlkovic both served up two aces as well.
 
The Panthers play their final home game of the season tomorrow, November 11 at 1 PM against the Warhawks.
