Foley, Ala.— Opening competition at the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championship on Monday night, senior forward Jimena Cabrero connected on a goal off an assist from sophomore forward Alondra Nieves in the 58th minute to lift Georgia State women's soccer to victory, 1-0, over No. 9 seed Southern Miss. The No. 8-seeded Panthers advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament and will rematch in-state rival and top-seeded Georgia Southern on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

After a scoreless first half that saw a pair of shots from sophomore Bree Barley, GSU returned in the second period of play and charted five total shots. Nieves charted the first of the five shots in the 46th minute entering the second half.
