Merrill Named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week

Making the game-winning lay-up to defeat in-state rival Georgia Southern, women's basketball student-athlete Deasia Merrill is this week's Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week.

Merrill may have only finished with six points and three rebounds, but it was her steal off a missed Kamryn Dziak 3-pointer with just over a second to play that led to a easy put back and a 58-56 win over the Eagles.

The win gave Georgia State its first in Sun Belt Conference play this year and helped snap a three-game losing streak.

Merrill and the Panthers will return to action on Thursday hosting South Alabama at 6 p.m., at the GSU Sports Arena.
