Women’s Tennis Falls to Middle Tennessee 4-1

Fort Myers, Fla.- The Georgia State women's tennis team fell to Middle Tennessee 4-1 on Monday morning in a match that marked the end of a three-day road trip in Florida.

Despite strong play by GSU, the loss dropped the team to 0-3 on the season after a tough slate of competition.

The Panthers found success in doubles play early as seniors Eva Chivu and Andreea Stanescu won 6-4 on court one. Sofya Golubovskaya and Angel Carney also secured a victory on court two as the Panthers claimed the doubles point as well as a 1-0 advantage entering singles action. Golubovskaya, the senior transfer from Syracuse, saw action with the team for the first time over the weekend.

Middle Tennessee then collected victories over GSU on courts one, two, three and five as the Panthers were bested in singles play.

GSU will return to Atlanta after the long weekend and look to regroup leading up to the team's next match. The Panthers will have over two weeks to prepare before facing Clark Atlanta on Friday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. ET in Atlanta.
