Homestand Continues as Panthers Host Texas State for Saturday Matinee

THE TIPOFF

• Georgia State (6-8, 0-2 Sun Belt) continues its five-game homestand by hosting Sun Belt Conference foe Texas State Saturday at p.m. ET at the GSU Sports Arena. The game will air on ESPN+. 

• The matchup with Texas State is the second of five straight home games for the Panthers, who host upcoming games with Georgia Southern (Jan. 22), South Alabama (Jan. 27) and Troy (Jan. 29). GSU will not play another road game until Feb. 5 at Georgia Southern.

• Unable to overcome a slow start, Georgia State fell to UT Arlington 82-68 Thursday at the GSU Sports Arena. After falling behind 47-26 at the half, GSU outscored the Lady Mavs 42-35 in the second half, including 24-13 in the fourth quarter, when the Panthers shot 57 percent from the field.  

• Freshman Nyla Jean has stepped into the starting lineup the last two games and averaged 11.5 points. She contributed 11 points, four rebounds and three steals vs. Coastal Carolina, followed by 12 points and four boards vs. UTA. 

• Moriah Taylor has come off the bench to hit 9-of-13 3-pointers over the last four games.

• After missing 10 games due to injury, Hannah Sadler saw her most significant playing time of the season vs. UTA and responded with season highs of 14 points (including 6-of-7 FT) and four rebounds in just 15 minutes.

• Kamryn Dziak broke out of her shooting slump to hit four treys on seven attempts for a season-high 12 points vs. UTA.

• Ashley Foster, who has missed the last two games, leads GSU in scoring at 11.3 ppg. She scored a career-high 19 points at Florida to open the season and has reached double figures in seven games, including a 17-point performance vs. Florida A&M. 

• Georgia State has already used eight different starting lineups, with 10 different players starting at least one game. No Panther has started all 13 games, and only three (Kamryn Dziak, Alyssa Phillip, Moriah Taylor) have played in all 13.

• Texas State (7-9, 2-2) is coming off a 78-74 victory at Georgia Southern Thursday.

SERIES NOTES vs. TEXAS STATE

• Georgia State and Texas State are meeting for the first time since Feb. 29, 2020, when the Bobcats earned a 67-62 win in San Marcos.

• Texas State is playing in Atlanta for the first time since Jan. 5, 2019.

• The Bobcats lead the overall series, which began in 2013-14, 9-4, but the teams have split six games at the GSU Sports Arena.

• The Panthers' last win in the series was a 57-34 decision at Texas Statein 2018-19.

• Head coach Gene Hill is 1-2 vs. Texas State.

HITTING THE BOOKS

• Georgia State enjoyed a very strong fall semester in the classroom, compiling a team grade point average of 3.42.

• Thirteen women's basketball student-athletes earned academic honors for the fall with a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Kamryn Dziak and Hannah Sadler achieved the President's List, Georgia State's highest academic distinction signifying a semester GPA of 4.0 or higher.

• Dean's List (3.5-3.99 GPA): Elexus Bell, Ashley Foster, Ciara Smith, Mikyla Tolivert
