Volleyball Hits the Road for North Florida Invitational

ATLANTA - After going 1-2 last weekend in the GSU Invitational, the Georgia State volleyball team will hit the road for the North Florida Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Panthers are slated to face Virginia Tech, Davidson and host North Florida. 

Georgia State will open the tournament on Friday (Sept. 3) when it faces power five opponent Virginia Tech at 11 a.m. Later that evening, Virginia Tech will square off with host North Florida to close action on Friday. 

Saturday morning, Davidson will face the Hokies at 10 a.m., before squaring off with the Panthers at 2 p.m. Georgia State will close action Saturday night when it faces North Florida at 7 p.m.

Davidson and North Florida will face each other on Sunday at 1 p.m., to end the tournament. 

LAST TIME OUT
- Georgia State opened the 2021 regular-season campaign hosting the GSU Invitational last weekend. The Panthers welcomed Chattanooga, Memphis and California Baptist to Atlanta for the annual tournament and accumulated a 1-2 record to start the year. GSU dropped the season-opener to Chattanooga (1-3), before defeating California Baptist in straight sets (3-0) and falling to Memphis (0-3). Meisheia Griffin was tabbed to the GSU Invitational All-Tournament Team after notching 25 kills and a .347 hitting percentage for the weekend.

THE MATCHUPS
- Georgia State will face North Florida for the fourth time in program history as the Panthers own a 2-1 record all-time. The Ospreys defeated GSU in the most recent match-up between the two teams in 2014 (3-0). 

- Georgia State owns a 2-4 record against Davidson all-time. The Panthers won the most recent match-up between the two teams in 2017 (3-1). 
- GSU has never faced Virginia Tech. 

SCOUTING THE OSPREYS
- North Florida competed in the FAU Invitational last weekend and accumulated a stellar 3-0 record including wins against FAU, Wofford and Stony Brook. Bre Walps earned ASUN Player of the Week honors after notching 19 blocks over the three matches. Dariana Hollingsworth-Santa led the Ospreys last weekend with 31 kills.  

SCOUTING THE HOKIES
- Virginia Tech knocked off Lehigh, Toledo and Elon en route to an undefeated mark (3-0) during the Virginia Tech Invitational. Cera Powell grabbed 37.5 points, while being named to the All-Tournament Team alongside teammate Tasha Vipond.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Davidson hosted the Wildcat Classic last weekend and earned victories against UNC Asheville and Western Carolina. Hattie Rodriquez was named A-10 Player of the Week after logging 38 kills. Bella Brady also earned conference recognition as she was tabbed A-10 Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 15 digs.

NEXT UP
After competing in the North Florida Invitational, the Panthers will come home to host a second tournament at GSU Sports Arena (Sept. 10-11). Georgia State is slated to host Alcorn State, Stetson and Prebyterian.
