ATLANTA - Head Coach Jonathan Wolff of the Georgia State men's tennis team officially announced the Panther's highly anticipated 2021-22 schedule Thursday evening.
The Panther's begin their championship quest in the fall as they are slated to participate in four tournaments, before hitting the court in January for the spring portion of the schedule.Â
"We are excited to get back to work in preparing for our upcoming 2021-22 season," said Wolff. " After last season where we came up just short of a Sun Belt title, our student-athletes as well as the coaching and support staff are ready to embrace a competitive schedule. With tough trips to Georgia Tech and Miami, as well as hosting top mid-major programs in Liberty and USF, we are confident that we will be well-prepared for Sun Belt Conference play."
Georgia State opens the 2021-22 campaign hosting the Panther Invite before traveling to Macon, Ga., for the Mercer Gridiron Classic, followed by a trip to Athens, Ga., for the UGA Bulldog Invitational. The Panther's wrap up the fall segment of their season when they head to Florida for the ITA Southeast Regionals on Oct. 21-25.Â
After a three month hiatus, the Panthers will start the spring with six consecutive matches in Atlanta against Georgia Tech (Jan. 21), Wofford (Jan. 23), USF (Jan. 28), Tennessee Tech (Feb. 4), Stetson (Feb. 6) and Mercer (Feb. 12).Â
Georgia State then hits the road for four consecutive matches against Furman (Feb. 13), Miami (Feb. 18), FAU (Feb. 20) and Kennesaw State (Feb. 25). Two days after facing Kennesaw State, the Panthers head back to Atlanta to face FGCU and UAB on Feb. 27. The following weekend, the Panthers host North Florida and Alabama State on March 4, followed by Liberty on March 6.Â
A week later, Georgia State will travel to Tennessee to face Chattanooga on March 13, before traveling to Texas and Louisiana to face UT Arlington (March 18) and Louisiana (March 20). The following weekend, the Panther's will host Troy (March 26) and South Alabama (March 27).
The Panthers will finish the regular season with three road contests versus Coastal Carolina (April 2), Presbyterian (April 3) and Georgia Southern (April 6).Â
The 2022 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will take place from April 15-17 in Peachtree City, Ga.Â
Last season, Georgia State enjoyed a dominant season that resulted in a Sun Belt Title match appearance.Â
