Goals from Kiser, Diez Lois Lead Panthers Past Davidson

ATLANTA -- Georgia State defeated Davidson 2-0 at home Sunday afternoon behind goals from Grace Kiser and Eva Diez Lois.

Battling the early afternoon heat, Georgia State started the game aggressive and moved the ball quickly against the Wildcats, getting a handful of chances in the early minutes.

In the 16th minutes, freshman Brooklynn Fugel found Kiser in the box who used her left foot to beat the Davidson keeper and give GSU a 1-0 advantage.

Georgia State finished the first half with four shots to Davidson's two.

"I felt like we controlled the first part of the game pretty well and moved the ball quickly, letting the ball do the work for us," head coach Ed Joyce said. "I was happy for Grace. She works really hard and it was good to see her get rewarded with a goal."

Georgia State maintained a high level of play and scored a second goal just before halftime, but the score was called back due to offsides.

Diez Lois took the ball down the sideline toward the corner in the 66th minute as GSU forwards raced towards the Davidson goal. Diez Lois sent a cross into the box but ended up curling the ball over the keeper and into the far side of the net for her first career goal.

"We've been talking a lot this week about putting the ball in dangerous positions" Joyce said. "Eva's goal is a good example of doing what we talk about and doing things right."

On the defensive side, goalkeeper Maria Subies earned her second shutout of the season.

The Panthers improved to 2-2 on the season with the win and will return to action Friday against Kennesaw State at home.
