CHATTANOOGA - After a dominant finish to the 2020 campaign, and a series of competitive practices since reporting to campus this fall, the Georgia State volleyball team hit the court for the first time in 2021 when it traveled to Chattanooga, Tenn., to face Chattanooga for a five set exhibition match at Maclellan Gymnasium.
The Panthers came out aggressive in the exhibition, notching a 25-18 victory in each of the first three sets. Leah Wilcox led the Panthers through the first three sets as she accumulated 10 kills and seven digs with a .381 hitting percentage.
Meisheia Griffin and Erin Wyatt also put together solid performances in the opening three sets as they each tallied seven kills. Griffin's performance was highlighted by a match-high .636 hitting percentage.
After the Panthers reeled off three consecutive wins to open the exhibition (25-18, 25-18, 25-18), the two teams played two more sets for extra training ahead of the 2021 regular-season slate.
Georgia State won both of the additional sets (25-19, 15-8) to complete the 5-0 sweep. Lauryn Moultrie led the Panthers with four kills and a .500 hitting percentage through the extra two sets.
Georgia State will open the regular season when it hosts the annual GSU Invitational (Aug. 27-28). The Panthers will face Chattanooga and California Baptist on Aug. 27, before facing Memphis on Aug. 28.
