Troy scored runs in the first two inning and held the Panthers just three hits as Georgia State fell to the Trojans 4-0 on Friday night in the opening game of a three game series at the GSU Baseball Complex.
Starting pitcher Garrett Gainous went 7.0 innings for Troy (16-16, 4-6 Sun Belt), allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking one while keeping the Georgia State (8-27, 4-6 Sun Belt) batters off all night.
Troy got on the board in the top of the first as Caleb Bartolero singled to right center scoring Logan Cerny.
The Trojans scored two more in the second and added a fourth run on a bases loaded walk of Nic Nolan in the top of the fifth.
Starting pitcher Cameron Jones pitched 4.1 innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs before the bullpen combined to allow just one hit over the final 4.2 innings.
Georgia State and Troy will return to the diamond on Saturday for Game 2 of the series beginning at 3 p.m.
