Georgia State Sweeps UAB to Find 10th Consecutive Win

ATLANTA - Georgia State men's tennis (14-5) earned a 4-0 sweep over UAB on the road on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers have registered 10 consecutive wins, matching the fifth longest winning streak in program history.

Georgia State started strong in doubles play, quickly earning the one-point advantage over the Blazers. First, Harvey Maughan and Kevin Huynh, who were tabbed as the No. 47 doubles pair in the country in the last ITA doubles rankings, found a 6-1 win on the top court. Afterwards, veteran duo Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds, who were named the No. 76 doubles pair, bested their opposition with a 6-2 result on court two.

Lines one, two, three, and six took the courts to begin singles action with lines four and five on deck. The players on lines four and five would barely see the courts, as the Panthers continued their momentum in singles play. Diego Padilha earned his second singles win of the 2021 campaign in the sixth position to extend the GSU lead. Duarte, who clinched the nail biting victory over Jacksonville State on Sunday, fought for a 7-5, 6-4 victory on court three to put the Panthers within one point of the win.

Shortly after Duarte finished, Maughan found his first win of the season on the top court to clinch the momentous victory for the blue and white. Grinvalds had split sets and was ahead by one game in his final frame when action halted.

Next up, Georgia State will face No. 44 Middle Tennessee on Friday in the final road contest of the regular season. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Adams Tennis Complex.
