Davis Hits First Career Home Run in Extra-Inning Loss

BOONE, N.C. -- Georgia State lost 6-5 in eight innings at Appalachian State Friday evening in the first of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.

The Panthers and Mountaineers went back-and-forth in an exciting game that featured three lead changes including App State's walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth.

Bailee Richardson gave GSU a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double that scored Daisy Hess. Skylar Mosel then homered to lead off the top of the second to put GSU up 2-0.

App State scored the next four runs to lead 4-2 after four frames. Richardson drove in her second run of the game on a single in the top of the fifth. 

Trailing by a run in the sixth with one out, junior Olivia Davis clobbered a no-doubt, two-run homer to left-center, her first career home run.
 
The Mountaineers pulled even at 5-5 with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth and loaded the bases in the seventh, but freshman Elle Doolittle escaped the jam to force extras. 

Appalachian State led off the eighth with a double and scored the game-winning run on a two-out single through the left side. 

GSU and Appalachian State will meet at 3 p.m. Saturday for Game 2 in the series.
