Aldrich, Stanescu Continue Doubles Success; GSU Falls 4-0 to South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala.– Georgia State women's tennis (2-12) fell 4-0 to tough Sun Belt competition in South Alabama (10-4) Sunday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

Andreea Stanescu and Ellie Aldrich found success on court two in doubles action for the second day in a row, picking up a Panthers victory. Courts one and three could not hold on as the Jaguars earned wins to take the doubles point.

South Alabama would jump to quick leads across singles action. Despite finding success and game wins, the Panthers could not gain the momentum needed to overtake the Jaguars leads. The host school collected victories over Eva Chivu and Denisa Gheorghe to put the match within their reach. Several Panthers attempted to change the momentum to GSU favor including Alexia Alvarez, who held a one-set lead on the third court. Despite the efforts, the Jaguars found their final point to finish play, defeating Ellie Aldrich in the fourth position.

The Panthers will return to Atlanta, where they will play out the remainder of the season. Next up, GSU will battle Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina each for the second time this season. Both matches will begin at 10:00 a.m.
