CLEMSON, S.C. – Georgia State fell 7-2 at Clemson Tuesday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in its final midweek game before opening Sun Belt Conference play.

Playing their 13th straight road game and 18th consecutive game against a Power 5 conference opponent, the Panthers (4-14) were within 3-2 in the sixth inning when the Tigers pulled away with a four-run inning.

After Clemson (6-8) took a 1-0 lead on Jonathan French's solo homer in the second, the Panthers answered in the third. GSU loaded the bases on a pair of walks and an infield single by Blaine Marchman, and then Mize delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

The Tigers regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, aided by two walks and a hit batter.

The Panthers inched closer with a run in the sixth as Mize led off with a single and scored on a two-out double to right center by Josh Smith, bring GSU within 3-2.

But Clemson added four runs in the bottom half, including a two-run homer by Bryce Teodosio, to extend their lead to 7-2.

Making his first start for the Panthers, sophomore righty Rafael Acosta had a solid outing, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts in his three innings.
