Nsoseme, Roberts Lead Panthers to 80-66 Win Over Troy

Box Score ATLANTA-Eliel Nsoseme and Justin Roberts each just missed double-doubles as Georgia State earned an 80-66 win over Troy on Friday night at the GSU Sports Arena.

Georgia State (10-5, 4-4 Sun Belt) won for the second-straight time and returned to the court on Friday after not being able to practice all week due to COVID-19 contact tracing protocols following the Panthers' last win over Georgia Southern last Thursday.

Nsoseme just missed a second-straight double-double finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Roberts added 12 points and nine assists. Seniors Corey Allen and Kane Williams, along with sophomore Jalen Thomas each scored 15 points as all five starters finished in double figures.

Troy (10-13, 4-9 Sun Belt) lost for the fourth-straight time despite 18 points from Nick Stampley and 16 from Khalyl Waters.

After leading by just three at the break, Georgia State opened the second half with eight straight points allowing the Trojans to never get closer than five points with 15:01 to play. The Panthers led by double figures the final 13:32 to the game.

Georgia State started the game by jumping out to a quick 10-4 lead as Roberts assisted on all of the Panthers' first four made baskets just three minutes into the game.

Troy responded with a quick 9-0 run to take a 13-11 lead with 14:23 to play in the opening half, but it was short-lived as the Panthers scored the next six points to go back ahead 17-13.

The first half featured six ties and six lead changes before Georgia State scored the final five points of the half to go into the locker room with a 37-34 lead.

Georgia State scored the first eight points of the second half, pushing the run to 13-0, building a 45-34 lead with 17:58 to play, causing Troy to call its second timeout.

A 7-0 Georgia State run capped by a Nsoseme dunk gave the Panthers a 58-45 lead with 12:36 remaining. Following a 3-pointer and jumper by Allen, the Panthers pushed the lead to 61-46 with 10:16 to play.

Troy immediately responded with a 7-0 run, cutting Georgia State's lead to 10, but would get no closer.

Freshman Evan Johnson contributed six points and four rebounds, while fellow freshman Collin Moore pulled down three rebounds.

• Georgia State snapped a two-game losing streak to Troy and now leads the all-time series 21-19.
• With 15 points, Kane Williams now has 1,133 points for his career, just one shy of Ryan Harrow for 16th on Georgia State's all-time scoring list.
• Georgia State outrebounded Troy 35-24, while dominating points in the paint 40-22.
