Griffin and Wilcox Shine as Volleyball Falls to Troy on Senior Night

ATLANTA - The Georgia State volleyball team fell to Troy, 2-3 (17-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-22, 14-16) in the regular season finale Saturday evening at GSU Sports Arena.

Georgia State falls to 7-19, 4-12 Sun Belt on the season, while Troy improves to 16-11, 9-7 Sun Belt.

The Panthers were led by seniors Meisheia Griffin and Leah Wilcox as the historic duo combined for 21 kills and 15 blocks in their final regular season contest.

Senior Truth Hafey also contributed as she tallied five assists. Hafey made her presence felt quickly as she came into the match and immediately registered a service ace.

Georgia State dropped sets one and two but stormed back with victories in sets three and four to force set five.

Troy came out aggressive and dominated sets one and two with a balanced offensive attack earning 25-17 and 25-16 set victories, respectively.

After falling down 0-2 in the match, Georgia State stepped up defensively and stymied the Trojan attack in sets three and four as the Panthers tallied 16 blocks over the two sets.

The Panther defense was led by Griffin as she notched 10 blocks for the contest. As a team, the Panthers tallied a season-high 17 team blocks.

Georgia State earned consecutive 25-22 victories in sets three and four to force it's 11th five set match of the season.

Troy came out strong in set five as the Trojans jumped out to a 9-4 lead. Like they've done all season, the Panthers refused to go away as they stormed back with a 9-4 run of their own to tie the set at 13. After a block from Griffin and Isabelle Percoco gave the Panthers a 14-13 lead, Troy put together a 3-0 run to win the match.

Georgia State will travel to Foley, Ala., for the Sun Belt Championship next week (Nov. 17-21). The Panthers seeding and matchup will be released in the coming days.
