Cabrero and Maughon Lead Comeback vs. South Alabama

ATLANTA -- Georgia State rallied from a two-goal deficit Friday night versus South Alabama to earn a 2-2 draw after scoring a pair of goals in the second half.

The Jaguars jumped in front in just the fourth minute on a counter attack. Georgia State outshot USA 12-4 in the first half but USA went ahead 2-0 just before halftime.

The Panthers continued to control possession and finally broke through in the 72 minute when Jimena Cabrero got the ball on her right foot and scored in the upper right corner from just outside the box. Her 11th career goal made it 2-1.

Just moments later, Callee Maughon got her foot on a loose ball right in front of goal and deposited the game-tying goal into the top net. Maughon's first career goal evened the score in the 78th minute.

Georgia State had a great chance in the final minutes of regulation but USA's goalkeeper made an impressive save on a long shot by Gracen Crosby to keep the game even and force overtime.

The Panthers thought they had earned a penalty kick in the first overtime but play continued as each team scrambled to find the game-winner. GSU keeper Jaddah Foos, who made five saves in the contest, and the GSU back line weathered an aggressive attack from the Jaguars in second overtime with USA tallying three corners and four shots, but the Panthers held strong and earned the 2-2 draw.

The Panthers move to 8-3-4 on the year and 3-1-3 in Sun Belt play, sitting in fourth place with 12 points. South Alabama remains in first place with 14 points.

GSU goes on the road next weekend to face third-place Arkansas State Friday in Jonesboro and Little Rock Sunday.
