Panthers Battle to a Draw at First-Place Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Georgia State battled to the end Friday at Arkansas State to earn a draw against the Sun Belt-leading Red Wolves.

Grace Kiser set the tone early with her third goal of the season off a cross from Callee Maughon in just the fifth minute as Georgia State looked to earn their first points in Jonesboro since a 1-1 draw in 2015.

Moments later Arkansas State had a chance to equalize on a penalty kick but missed wide right. The Red Wolves pulled even with a 30th minute goal but freshman Brooklynn Fugel put GSU right back in front in the 38th with her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Georgia State went up 3-1 on an own goal by the Red Wolves in the 64th, but Arkansas State fought back to make it 3-2 in the 77th and 3-3 in the 81st.

Each side had multiple good looks on goal in overtime but each keeper made clutch saves in the closing minutes as the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

GSU finished with 17 shots, eight on goal, while the Red Wolves put 13 of their 28 shots on goal.

GSU keeper Jaddah Foos made a career-high 10 saves including a crucial block in the final overtime period on a breakaway chance for ASU.

Georgia State moves to 8-3-5 on the year and 3-1-4 in Sun Belt action. The Panthers remain in fourth place in the conference standings, three points behind first-place Arkansas State.

GSU travels to Little Rock to face the Trojans Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
