ATLANTA-In a schedule update for the Georgia State men's basketball team, the Panthers will now face South Alabama in a Sun Belt Conference showdown on Friday night, Jan. 29, at 8:30 p.m., live on ESPN2.
The game was picked up for national television on Wednesday as part of a two-game 'Wild Card' package between the Sun Belt Conference and television partner ESPN.
Plans are in the works for an official virtual watch party for those fans who cannot attend. Details on the event will be made available early next week.
The Friday time change will also lead to a Saturday time change to allow additional rest for both teams. The Panthers and Jaguars will now play the second game of the series on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 6:30 p.m. That game will remain on ESPN+.
This will mark Georgia State's 18th time on national television since the start of the 2013-14 season, though the first one in the GSU Sports Arena. Of those games, this will mark the 10th time appearing on ESPN2. The Panthers have compiled a 4-5 record in those games which were either on the road or in New Orleans for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Georgia State (8-2, 2-1 Sun Belt) returns to the road this weekend traveling to face Appalachian State (10-5, 4-2 Sun Belt) in a pair of match-ups between the top two teams in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference standings.
