1991 and 2001 NCAA Tournament Teams Anniversary Celebrations Set for February

ATLANTA-With the anniversary of a trio of basketball teams which made the NCAA Tournament coming up later this spring, Georgia State announced on Tuesday a series of recognitions for those teams over the coming weeks.

This season marks the 30th anniversary of the 1991 Georgia State men's basketball team which became the first in program history to advance to the NCAA Tournament under Bob Reinhart. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the 2001 Georgia State men's basketball as well as women's basketball teams advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

The women's team under the leadership of Georgia State Athletics Hall of Fame head coach Lea Henry advanced to the first of three-straight tournaments that spring.

On the men's side, the Panthers of Naismith Hall of Fame head coach Charles "Lefty" Driesell advanced to the second round of the tournament and finished the year a school-best 29-5.

On Feb. 13, Georgia State will welcome back the 2001 women's basketball team as the Panthers host Georgia Southern at 2 p.m.

A week later on Feb. 20, Georgia State will welcome back the 1991 and 2001 men's basketball teams as the Panthers host Troy at 4 p.m.

Leading up to the events will be feature stories on each team along with dedicated "team" podcasts as multiple members of each team join the 'Voice of the Panthers' Dave Cohen to discuss those magic seasons.

The 1991 men's team will be recognized on the Feb. 4, Panther Insider Podcast Driven by Ford. A week later (Feb. 11), the 2001 women's basketball team will be recognized, followed by the 2001 men's basketball team on Feb. 18.
