Polhamus Announces 2020 Schedule

ATLANTA – Georgia State volleyball announced its 2020 Sun Belt Conference schedule Thursday afternoon. The 18-match schedule is comprised of nine home affairs and nine road tests.

Georgia State will begin the season at Chattanooga on Sept. 12. The Panthers defeated the Mocs in their last contest in 2017 and hold a 7-5 edge in all-time meetings.

The squad will return to downtown Atlanta for the first home contest of the year on Sept. 18 against Mercer. The Panthers last defeated the Bears in 2013.

The Panthers will open conference action with a doubleheader on the road at Troy on Sept. 25. The two squads will meet again the following afternoon.

The next weekend Georgia State will host Georgia Southern at the GSU Sports Arena with two key matches. The Panthers and Eagles will first battle on Oct. 1 before competing on Oct. 2. Georgia State has defeated the Eagles five of the last six meetings.

The following weekend, Georgia State will remain in Atlanta for a home series against Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers and Panthers will participate in a doubleheader on Friday with the series finale coming on Saturday.

Following an off weekend, Georgia State will travel to the Tar Heel State to compete against Appalachian State. The two teams will meet in a doubleheader on Oct. 23 before playing their final match on Oct. 24. The Panthers will look for their first win against the Mountaineers since the team's 2017 win in front of a home crowd.

The next weekend the Panthers will head to Statesboro to battle Georgia Southern two more times. Action will begin on Oct. 30 before the conclusion of the rivals' regular season meetings on Oct. 31.

Georgia State will return home to face South Alabama three times in the season finale. After defeating the Jaguars at the GSU Sports Arena last season, the Panthers will look to build on last season's home success. Play will start with two matches on Nov. 5, with the final regular season matchup occurring Nov. 6.

The Sun Belt Conference Tournament is slated for Nov. 18-22 in Foley, Ala.

"We have gotten great things out of this extended preseason especially with seven new players," said head coach Sally Polhamus. "I love how the players have come prepared to practice every day ready to work and hungry to learn."
