Thees Records Double-Digit Digs as GSU Falls to Troy

Box Score

TROY, Ala. -- Georgia State was defeated by Troy 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-21) Saturday at Trojan Arena.

The Panthers utilized a new lineup to begin the contest, as freshman Clara Bednarek made her first collegiate start. On offense the Panthers were led by senior Leah Wilcox with nine kills. On defense Ally Thees recorded 10 digs, marking her third double-digit performance of her rookie campaign.

GSU struggled to slow down Troy's attack from the beginning. In the first frame the Trojans, with 12 veterans on the roster, were able to use shot variety to keep the Panthers on their toes and out of system. Troy would cruise to the first set victory.

Despite creating more scoring opportunities, GSU fell in the second set. With the game on the line in the third, GSU fought hard and stayed mentally tough. The Panthers surged to a quick lead behind strategically placed kills and unforced errors from Troy. However the Trojans were able to lower their errors and outscore the Panthers down the stretch to take the match in three.

The Panthers (1-4, 0-3 Sun Belt) return to Atlanta to host Georgia Southern Thursday, Oct. 1 and Friday. Oct. 2.
