Volleyball Set to Open Conference Play Friday

Georgia State's first Sun Belt test will come in a trio of matches at Troy

ATLANTA- After defeating Mercer in a five-set thriller to open play at the GSU Sports Arena, Georgia State heads to the Yellowhammer State to open Sun Belt play. The Panthers will battle Troy in a trio of matches, starting with a doubleheader Friday and concluding with an afternoon performance Saturday.  

SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
> Last weekend's match marked the second five-set match for Georgia State on the young season, as the Panthers fell to Chattanooga in one during opening weekend action. 
> Leah Wilcox leads the team, averaging 3.90 kills per set. A consistent threat for the Panthers, the senior accumulated the second most kills (208) on last year's squad.
> Ava Vlkovic leads the Sun Belt in aces per set (0.67). The freshman's service marks are also tied for fifth in all of NCAA competition. 
> Jordan Shoemaker has dished out 101 assists in just two games this season. Her 10.10 assists per set is best for fifth in the NCAA. 
> Meisheia Griffin, who has led GSU in blocking for three consecutive seasons, has started a strong senior campaign at the net. Her 1.50 blocks per set also ties for fifth in the NCAA. 
> In last weekend's match junior transfer, Emma Clark, made her debut in a GSU uniform. 
 
SCOUTING TROY
> Friday's meeting will mark the first outing on Troy's 2020 schedule. 
> Troy finished the 2019 season with a 23-10 record, ending in a second round appearance at the NIVC 
> The Trojans return 12 players from last year's squad, including Amara Anderson and Cheyenne Hayes, Preseason All-Sun Belt selections 
> Troy was picked to finish second in the Sun Belt East  in this year's preseason poll 
> Josh Lauer is in his fourth season as head coach. 
 
THE MATCH
>  GSU holds a 17-16 narrow edge in the overall record between the two conference foes. 
> The Trojans have won three consecutive matches against the Panthers. 
> GSU last defeated Troy in a five-set match at home in 2018.
