ATLANTA- Georgia State opens the 2020 season on the road at Chattanooga, Saturday afternoon at Maclellan Gymnasium.
SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
> GSU compiled a 10-17 record last season, including four wins against non-conference opposition.
> Georgia State is led by five seniors: Meisheia Griffin, Dzemila Hadzic, Jordan Shoemaker, Cierra Sillmon, and Leah Wilcox.
> Meisheia Griffin led the Sun Belt in blocks per set (1.16) in 2019. At the conclusion of the season, Griffin was named to the All-Sun Belt Second-Team.
> Leah Wilcox accumulated the second most kills for GSU last season (208). Wilcox comes into her senior campaign as the primary offensive threat for the Panthers.
> Seven newcomers add depth at every position for Georgia State. Head coach Sally Polhamus will look for an immediate impact from the new Panthers, comprised of five freshmen and two junior transfers.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
> Chattanooga finished the 2019 season with a 7-23 record, falling to two Sun Belt opponents (Troy and Arkansas State).
> Chattanooga's roster boasts eight returners, including four seniors.
> The Mocs have won four consecutive home openers and five of the last eight.
>Travis Filar is in his 10th season as head coach.
THE MATCH
>Saturday will be the 13th all-time meeting between GSU and Chattanooga. The Panthers own a 7-5 record in the series and won the most recent outing 3-2 at Chattanooga in 2017.
>This will serve as Chattanooga's only match of the 2020 fall season.
> Fans will not be permitted at the event.
> Chattanooga is a member of the Southern Conference. Saturday's match will be the first of two non-conference meetings on GSU's 2020 slate.
