Senior Spotlight: Cierra Sillmon

ATLANTA- In the upcoming weeks we will be honoring this year's senior class. This week's spotlight is on Cierra Sillmon

Sillmon's volleyball journey began in the seventh grade. The Georgia native hit her stride in high school. In ninth grade Sillmon began playing club volleyball for A5 South. Additionally, the middle blocker lettered four seasons at Lovejoy, earning All-Area Player of the Year during the 2015-2016 season.

Sillmon chose Georgia State because she fell in love with the coaching staff and members of the team. Behind a deep middle blocking core, played in 11 matches during her first year as a Panther. In her rookie campaign she recorded 30 kills and 18 blocks.

Sillmon's favorite collegiate volleyball memory came during her sophomore year, although her season was shortened due to injury. During the team's first weekend of competition, the Panthers faced Mississippi State on the road. Sillmon recorded a .375 hitting percentage to help lead Georgia State to a 3-1 victory for the team's second win of the season.

"Mississippi State was such a great team. It was so amazing how hard we fought," said Sillmon. "Our team chemistry was great."

Last season Sillmon became a consistent weapon for the Panthers on offense and defense. She secured the net with 49 overall blocks, including a career high seven against Appalachian State. In six contests she held a .250 hitting percentage or higher while accumulating 55 kills over the season.

"Cierra has put an incredible amount of hard work, time watching video, and passion into developing her game and our team," said head coach Sally Polhamus

Off the court, Sillmon excels academically. She has landed on the Dean's List three times and the Athletic Director's honor roll twice. After graduation Sillmon plans on attending Florida State University to continue her education in sports nutrition.

"Being a student-athlete has taught me so much. I have learned how to stay calm under pressure or during stressful situations. I have learned how to communicate effectively. I have built my confidence. Most importantly, I have discovered what makes me unique," said Sillmon.
