Director of Athletics Charlie Cobb Named to NACDA Executive Committee

ATLANTA – Georgia State Director of Athletics of Athletics Charlie Cobb has been named to the NACDA Executive Committee as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Cobb, who is entering his seventh year at the helm of the Georgia State Department of Athletics and 16^th year as a Division I Athletic Director, has led the Panthers during the most successful period in program history.

Since his hire, multiple new facilities have opened, while student-athletes maintained above a 3.0 Grade Point Average for the 12th-straight year, including a record 3.40 GPA in spring 2020. Georgia State also received the Sun Belt's Institutional Graduation Award twice under his tenure.

Among Cobb's biggest projects has been participating in the acquisition, purchase, and repurposing of Turner Field, transforming the former home of the Atlanta Braves to Georgia State Stadium. Phase One of the project was completed in August 2017 and includes new east side seating and an artificial surface field for the football team. Phase Two moved all football operations to the stadium in 2019 as part of a $300 million plan to transform the 68-acre site. Future construction plans include the completion of an 'Athletics Neighborhood' as part of the development, including a new Convocation Center, baseball stadium, softball stadium, soccer facility, and track and field venue. The Bobby Jones Golf Practice Facility also opened for the men's and women's golf teams in 2019.

Warde Manuel, the Director of Athletics at the University of Michigan, will serve as the Association's President for the 2020-21 membership year.

Alongside Manuel, Jamie Pollard, director of athletics at Iowa State, will serve as NACDA's 1^st Vice President, with three newly-appointed Officers. Rick Hart, director of athletics at Southern Methodist (SMU), will serve as 2^nd Vice President; Kim Record, director of athletics at UNC Greensboro (UNCG), will serve as 3^rd Vice President and Pennie Parker, director of athletics at Rollins College will serve as Secretary.

NACDA Executive Committee members selected to serve beginning in 2020-21 include: Anthony Azama, director of athletics at Washington University St. Louis; Whit Babcock, director of athletics at Virginia Tech; Charlie Cobb, director of athletics at Georgia State University; Allen Greene, director of athletics at Auburn University; Christina Hundley, director of athletics at Paradise Valley Community College; Chrissi Rawak, director of athletics at the University of Delaware; and Mike Snyder, director of athletics at Illinois College.
