Although his first season ended prematurely, Georgia State head baseball coach
Brad Stromdahl is off to a strong start with the Panthers.
Among the highlights as Stromdahl led the Panthers to a 9-7 record for the first four weeks of his first season:
> A walk-off win on Opening Day over 2019 NCAA Tournament team Cincinnati to kick off a weekend sweep of the Atlanta Challenge
> Three games won in the Panthers' final at-bat
> Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors for top hitter
Elian Merejo, who ranked among the conference leaders with a .407 average and five home runs
> One of the top freshmen in the Sun Belt in shortstop
Will Mize, hitting .373 with 17 RBI
> A strong crop of freshman pitchers led by right-hander
Chad Treadway (led GSU with 2.20 ERA, 23 strikeouts) and lefty
Cameron Jones (2-1, 1 save, 1.00 ERA).
Stromdahl, who won more than 75 percent of his games at nearby Georgia Gwinnett, is profiled in the latest edition of GSU Magazine.
Ahead of his seven seasons at the helm of the Georgia Gwinnett College baseball program, Stromdahl spent five seasons at Georgia State (2007–11) as a recruiting coordinator and hitting instructor.
The Panthers hit .300 or better in each of those seasons and set a Georgia State record in 2010 with an average of .356.
