GSU Uses 21-0 Run to Defeat Red Wolves

Hosendove posts seventh double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

ATLANTA -- Georgia State's women's basketball team defeated Arkansas State 67-56 Thursday night at the GSU Sports Arena.

The Panthers trailed the Red Wolves by 10 points in the closing seconds of the third quarter when freshman Moriah Taylor hit one of her four 3-pointers of the game. Taylor's basket would start a 21-0 run for Georgia State that lasted until Arkansas State ended the run with 4:46 left in the game. By that point, GSU led 58-47.

Taylor Hosendove knocked down two key free throws in the closing moments to seal the win for the Panthers. The sophomore recorded her seventh double-double, finishing with a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Taylor recorded a new career-high with 14 points. Fellow freshman Taylor Henderson narrowly posted a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. She also led the team with four assists.

"It took a team effort," head coach Gene Hill said. "We only had eight players available tonight and all eight had to contribute for us to get that win. We chipped away at their lead defensively and that allowed us to spark that big run in the fourth quarter. It was our defense that got us to that point."

The Panthers held Arkansas State to just 21% from the field in the final quarter while GSU shot 60% in the fourth quarter and 56% over entire second half. GSU went 7-for-10 from the free throw line in the last period as well.

Thursday night's win snapped a seven-game losing streak and was GSU's first win against the Red Wolves at the Sports Arena.

Next up for Georgia State is Little Rock Saturday at 2 p.m.
