Inside Georgia State Basketball: Damon Wilson

This story will appear in the final edition of the Georgia State men's basketball program. It will also be the first part of a multi-part series over the months of February and March featuring Georgia State Men's Basketball.

Senior Damon Wilson will wrap up his Georgia State career in just a few weeks and although he has already accomplished a lot, there is still much he wants to do before he takes off the jersey one last time.

Between his first two seasons at Pitt and the last two seasons in Panther blue, Wilson will have played more than 125 games. Including the season that he redshirted at Georgia State, he has already been a part of two Sun Belt Conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

"Those memories will always be special, but I would have to say that my favorite moment had to be last year when we went down to the Cayman Islands to play," Wilson said. "I will always remember that for the rest of my life. That was a fun trip."

Fun trips and a lot of wins have become the norm for Wilson and his teammates, but he is the first to admit that the time has gone by quick.

"It has gone by really fast. I can still remember my first year at the University of Pittsburgh and now at Georgia State University and it truly has gone by so fast. The best piece of advice I could give a freshman coming in now is to stay humble and continue to learn and grow. Also, enjoy every minute of the ride."

As the Panthers reached the midpoint of conference play, Wilson was putting together a career season averaging 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while starting each of the first 21 games for Georgia State. The senior is averaging career-highs in nearly every statistical category and hopes to use that to propel him after walking off the court one last time.

"My plans after Georgia State are to continue playing basketball professionally somewhere," Wilson said. Obviously, the NBA would be my first choice, but if not, somewhere overseas."

When he does make the jump to the next level, he will join an every-growing list of former Panthers who have made the leap from the college ranks to the professional ones. Hopefully for Wilson and all Panther fans, there is still a lot of basketball to play deep into March before he has to worry about the next chapter in his basketball career.
