ATLANTA -- Georgia State dropped its series finale to Bryant 5-1 Sunday at the GSU Baseball Complex.
Bryant (2-5) won the series while the Panthers fell to 4-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs jumped in front with three runs in the first inning, taking advantage of two walks, a hit batter an error and a passed ball to take a lead they would not relinquish.
The Panthers got one run back in the bottom half as
Ryan Glass led off with a single, advanced to second on an error, moved to third on a fly ball and scored on a wild pitch. But that was the only run GSU could manage.
One bright spot for Georgia State was a strong performance out of the bullpen by freshman
Brandon Haston, who relieved starter
Tyler Koch (0-1) in the first inning. The lefty from Douglasville, Ga., pitched four innings and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out five in his longest appearance of the season.
Another freshman reliever, righty
Duncan Lutz, retired three straight including a pair of strikeouts in the eighth and ninth innings.
The GSU staff totalled 14 strikeouts on the day while allowing four five hits and four walks.
The Panthers' six hits were by six different players, but none went for extra bases. Georgia State left nine on base.
GSU now faces four straight road games with a midweek contest at Western Carolina, Wednesday at 4 p.m., and then a weekend series at ETSU.
