Alonso Named Sun Belt Track Athlete of the Week

Alonso is the second Panther to win the weekly award.

NEW ORLEANS -- Angela Alonso is this week's Sun Belt Indoor Track Athlete of the Week the conference announced Wednesday.

Alonso shattered her own GSU school record in the Mile running a time of 4:48.21 on Saturday at the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge. Alonso's time bested her own previous school record by over six seconds.

Heading into the Sun Belt Indoor Championship, her Mile time leads the Sun Belt Conference by over 10 seconds (actual, non-converted results). Additionally, Alonso is #2 on the SBC list in the 800 meters.

Alonso is the second winner of the weekly award from GSU this season. Lotte Meyberg was the Sun Belt Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 22 and Feb. 5. Georgia State has won the award three of the six weeks this season.

The Panthers will compete at the 2020 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 24-25 in Birmingham Ala.
