Panthers Claim Third Win in a Row

GSU won its first game in Lafayette since 2014 on Thursday night.

LAFAYETTE, La. -- Georgia State's women's basketball team rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Louisiana 61-53 Thursday night at the Cajundome and earn GSU its third win in a row.

The Panthers, who had not won in Lafayette since 2014, used intense defensive pressure in the second half to come from behind and finish off the Ragin' Cajuns down the stretch.

Louisiana held a two-point edge at halftime and shot 57% in the first half. GSU locked down on defense in the second half and held Louisiana to just six field goals in the final two quarters.

On offense, GSU's scoring was spread out among eight players with freshman Moriah Taylor leading the way at 12 points from off the bench. Fellow freshman Joelle Johnson joined Taylor in double figures and matched her career-high with 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting to go with six rebounds.

Shaq Miller-McCray provided nine points off the bench with a team-high 12 rebounds and three blocks. Taylor Hosendove finished with eight points and six boards and Taylor Henderson score nine points with four rebounds and three assists.

Thursday's win was Georgia State's first road win at Louisiana since 2014. The Panthers have now won three in a row to improve to 7-16 overall and 4-8 in Sun Belt play. The Ragin' Cajuns fall to 13-10 and 6-6 in the conference.

GSU heads to Monroe, La., to face ULM Saturday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN+. The Panthers won the first meeting versus the Warhawks 68-52 in Atlanta on Jan. 4.
