Double Trouble: Pair of Twins Gear Up for Spring Competition

Three sets of twins have progressed from playing youth sports together to now serving as teammates at Georgia State. Two pairs of twins are gearing up to take the field during spring competition. This week we caught up with senior men's tennis players, Kevin and Steven Huynh, and freshmen beach volleyball players, Angel and Bella Ferary to hear more about their journey as twins and teammates.

Bella and Angel Ferary
The Ferary sisters began playing beach volleyball in the seventh grade just for fun. Once they tried it Angel wanted to become more invested in the sport. After a little convincing, Bella jumped on board and the duo fully committed to the sand the following year.

In a sport that takes two to play, the twins agree that it has always been great to have a built in partner. Additionally, the twins are always making each other better through constant competition. Whether in the weight room, in training, or in the sand, the twins make everything a competition.  As a result the pair have found much success. Both were named First Team AVCA All-Americans this summer after placing first at the AAU Junior Olympics.

On the court the pair has had fun playing tricks on people. If asked if they are twins, sometimes the duo will say, "no" just to throw people off. Onlookers can tell the two apart as Angel always wears her hair in a braid and Bella will always compete in a bun.

The Georgia natives are preparing for their rookie season. As their first semester in college has been anything but normal, it has been nice to go through this experience alongside one another.

"It is a really special opportunity for us to compete side by side," said Bella Ferary. "Many twins split up and pursue their sports differently, but our sister/teammate bond is too strong to break."

Kevin and Steven Huynh
On the tennis court, Kevin and Steven Huynh are entering their senior season at GSU. The Georgia natives began to play tennis at five years old. Both of the brothers loved the sport from the beginning and grew up playing together.

Both twins have found success as Panthers, playing primarily in the No. 4, 5, and 6 positions in singles play. Additionally, the brothers have partnered with each other in doubles action. The siblings most enjoy cheering for each other.  But in a sport that is often based on individual play, the brothers do not enjoy having to compete with one another for a spot in the lineup.

As far as twin antics go, the Huynh brothers have a good time messing with people. The brothers will fool the team by responding as if they are the other brother. Sometimes, the duo will even introduce themselves incorrectly.

After playing with each other their entire lives, the twins are excited to cap off their collegiate career on the same team this spring.

"It means the world to me knowing that we are both competing at the highest level," said Steven Huynh. "It means everything to me to know that he is supporting me every step of the way during our tennis careers and that we will end our careers together. I will always have his back and I know he has mine."
