ATLANTA- After splitting action with in-state rival Georgia Southern last weekend, GSU will host South Alabama in the final series of the regular season. Action begins with a doubleheader on Thursday.
SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
> GSU squared-off against Georgia Southern last weekend. After dropping the first match, the Panthers took down the Eagles in a 3-1 performance on Saturday.Â
> Meisheia Griffin recorded her 376th career block in last weekend's action. She is currently tied for sixth most blocks in program history.Â
> Leah Wilcox earned Georgia State Student Athlete of the Week accolades after notching a combined 35 kills in last weekend's matches. Her 22 kills in Friday's contest matched her Georgia State career high.Â
> Senior Cierra Sillmon recorded a personal best 11 blocks in Friday's contest before accumulating 12 kills, another personal best, in Saturday's performance.Â
> Freshman Ally Thees accumulated a career high 27 digs in last Friday's match. This marked her first collegiate outing with 20-plus digs. Â
> Four Panthers, Leah Wilcox, Clara Bednarek, Dzemila Hadzic, and Cierra Sillmon, recorded double-digit kills as the Panthers found a win in the series finale.
SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA
> The Jaguars enter the weekend with a 7-10 record, including a 7-6 conference note.Â
> Last weekend South Alabama dropped two matches to Troy.
> South Alabama's offense is led by sophomore Hannah Maddux, who has accumulated 152 kills in 64 sets of play. While freshman Rebecca Walk has recorded a .379 hitting percentage in 60 sets of play.Â
> The Jaguars currently rank third in the Sun Belt East, while Georgia State follows in fourth. Â
> Alexis Meeks-Rydell is in her second season at the program's helm. Last year she led the team to their first 20-win season since 1989.
THE MATCH
> Thursday's afternoon contest will mark the 19th meeting between the two conference foes.Â
> South Alabama holds a 13-5 record in the overall series. Last season the two squads split action. First, the Panthers defeated the Jaguars in a five-setter at the GSU Sports Arena before falling on the road.
> Four seniors will be honored during Thursday's nightcap. Come to the game early as we recognize and honor each of them for their accomplishments on and off the court.Â
> This week's series marks the end of regular season play for both teams. The Sun Belt Tournament will begin Nov. 18 in Foley, Ala.
