WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

> Georgia State fell to Georgia Southern Friday afternoon.

> Freshman Clara Bednarek recorded a career high seven kills in the effort.

> The Panthers will face Coastal Carolina in a trio of matches at the GSU Sports Arena next weekend.

ATLANTA. -- Georgia Southern defeated Georgia State (25-14, 25-19, 25-22) Friday afternoon. With the loss the Panthers fall to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in conference action.

Georgia State's effort was led by freshman Clara Bednarek and senior Meisheia Griffin with seven and six kills respectively. Bednarek's outing marked the Arizona native's best performance in a GSU uniform.

After falling to the Panthers last night, the Eagles came out in full force from the beginning. The young Panthers defense could not slow the Eagles offense as their hitters found holes around the court, recording a .367 hitting percentage in the first. During the second the Eagles would continue to space out the GSU defense to take the 2-0 advantage.

Georgia State would fight hard in the third to stay alive. Multiple kills down the center of the court from Bednarek ignited the GSU offense to a six point lead, while scrappy defense would keep the Panthers in play. Despite the GSU efforts, the Eagles would storm back to take the set and the match by reducing unforced errors and finding kills.

The Panthers will host Coastal Carolina next weekend in three matches at the GSU Sports Arena. Action begins Friday at 11:00 a.m.
