Late Runs Send Panthers to 6-2 Loss

LITTLE ROCK -- Georgia State fell 6-2 as Little Rock broke a 2-2 tie with four late runs to win its second straight and clinch the series at Gary Hogan Field.

The loss spoiled a strong start by GSU's junior left-hander Tyler Koch, who pitched six innings and allowed just two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Koch departed a 2-2 game, but Little Rock took the lead on Troy Alexander's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Trojans added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, which proved to be significant because the Panthers loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth.

After Little Rock (9-18, 4-4 Sun Belt) scored a first-inning run without benefit of a hit, Georgia State answered in the second. Freshman third baseman Chase Frady singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Luke Leonard's RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.

The Panthers (8-19, 2-6 Sun Belt) took their first lead of the series one ining later. After Daino Deas drew a leadoff walk, Griffin Cheney doubled to the gap in left center to put runners and second and third. Deas came home on Brandon Bell's groundout for a 2-1 lead.

Little Rock again evened the score with a two-out rally as Alexander doubled and scored on Ramon Figueroa's single.

Frady and Bell had two his apiece for the Panthers, who outhit Little Rock, 8-7, but left nine on base.

The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
