ATHENS -- Georgia State fell to No. 5 Georgia 11-1 Tuesday evening at Foley Field.
On a designated staff day, Georgia State (7-14) used a different pitcher each inning. Starter Tyler Koch retired the Bulldogs in order in the first innning. But the ensuing Panther pitchers struggled with control, issuing 11 walks and hitting three batters. The Bulldogs (19-2), who won their 10th straight, totalled seven hits in the game.
Terrell Frazier drove in the Panthers' lone run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Jackson Sisk, who led off with a single.
For the second straight week, Georgia starter Tony Elliott (3-1) was outstanding against the Panthers, pitching five scoreless innings and allowing just three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
Georgia State's best chance to score off Elliott came in the fifth inning. Tanner Gallman and Daino Deas worked two-out walks, Deas' coming in a 15-pitch at-bat. Griffin Cheney singled to load the bases, but Elliott got the strikeout to end the inning.
Georgia State returns home to host Sun Belt Conference foe UT Arlington for a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
