Stevenson Elevated to Head Coach

Stevenson served as assistant coach the last two seasons.

ATLANTA – Kyle Stevenson has been elevated to head coach of the Georgia State track and field team after serving two seasons as an assistant as announced by the athletics department on Friday.

Stevenson encapsulates more than six years of coaching experience, beginning his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at East Tennessee State in 2014.

Over the last two seasons at GSU, Stevenson has notably had two NCAA East Preliminary Qualifiers in horizontal jumps in 2019, set a new Indoor school record in the Long Jump in 2019, established new Indoor school records in the Long and Triple Jump in 2018 and acted as adjunct track and field coach for Chongqing Sports Skills College in 2018-2019.

Stevenson guided Georgia State to improved team performances at the Sun Belt Conference Championships meets from eighth in 2018 to fifth in 2019 at the Indoor Championships and from seventh in 2018 to fourth in 2019 at the Outdoor Championships. The team's fourth-place finish was the highest since 2015.

As the assistant coach of track and field at Saint Martins prior to GSU, Stevenson guided a team that shattered 17 school records in the sprint/jump events and won two Division II National Titles in the men's high jump.

During Stevenson's time as assistant coach and director of operations at ETSU, his distinguished accomplishments included coaching seven student-athletes to academic all-conference teams, seven student-athletes to the freshmen all-conference team and set three new school records in the women's sprints/hurdles (60mH, 100m, 100mH).

Stevenson's career in track and field began in 2007 as a student-athlete on the Tennessee track and field team.

He was cited as a two-time All-American, was a part of the SEC Championship and team title in 2007 for the 4x100 meter relay and was a member of the 2007 USATF Junior Pan-American Team for the 4x100 meter relay and 200 meters.
