Georgia State Stumbles at Home

Panthers fall despite late effort

Box Score ATLANTA- Georgia State fell in three sets (25-20, 25-20, 28-26) Friday night to Coastal Carolina. The loss drops the Panthers to 4-9 in conference play.

Senior Morgan Hash led the team with eight kills, her season high. Kampbell Hehr and Jordan Shoemaker split setting duties in the effort with 16 and 13 respectively.

Defensively, Meisheia Griffin secured the net with five blocks. While Lauren Bandera recorded 13 digs. Bandera has posted double-digit digs in every contest except for one this season.

Coastal Carolina would lead the entire first frame. Georgia State's aggressive serving would keep the Panthers in striking distance, but strong outside hitting by the Chanticleers would secure the 25-20 opening set victory. Down by as much as eight points in the second, the Panthers would ultimately save three match points, but the Chanticleers would stop GSU's late run to take the set once again 25-20.

With the third frame tied 7-7, the Panthers would find momentum. Two consecutive blocks from Griffin would give GSU its first lead of the contest, but Coastal Carolina's hitting core would not slow down. Four straight kills into State territory would give the Chanticleers the late lead. Coastal Carolina would outlast the Panthers to take the set 28-26 and the match 3-0.

The Panthers will return to GSU Sports Arena tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. as they face Appalachian State. Admission is free. Fans can also follow along via live stats and streaming through the links via our schedule page.
