Volleyball Announces the Signing of Four Players

ATLANTA – Four talented high school seniors signed national letters of intent to play volleyball at Georgia State, head coach Sally Polhamus announced Monday afternoon. The class includes Clara Bednarek, Katie Strickland, Ally Thees, and Erin Wyatt. 

"We can't wait to welcome our 2020 recruiting class to the Panther family. This class is filled with competitive and driven athletes both on and off the court with a strong foundation of incredible character," said Polhamus. 
 
Clara Bednarek - MB, 6'1, Coolidge, Arix. (Florence High School) 
 
A native of Coolidge, Ariz., is a three-year letterwinner at Florence High School under head coach Jeana Brown. Playing at all positions at the net, she recorded 465 kills in her senior season. In the classroom, she was the National Honor Society president and an IB student. Bednarek played volleyball for Aspire 17 Rox.  
 
"Clara is a hungry middle that can attack off of one and two feet. She has an incredible work ethic. She is relentless to finish the block and find that point," Sally Polhamus.  
 
Katie Strickland-  OH/RS, 6'2, Marietta, Ga. (Walton High School) 
 
Born and raised in Georgia, Katie Strickland is a three-year letterwinner at Walton High School under head coach Suzanne Fitzgerald. An OH/MB/RS, she helped lead her team to four consecutive state championships. She earned player of the match honors twice during the 2019 season and was selected for the 2019 All-Star game. Strickland played volleyball for A5 under Jordan Brisson where she once earned Athlete of the Month accolades.

Ally Thees- Setter, 5'6, Fort Mill, S.C. (National Ford High School) 
 
A resident of Fort Mill, S.C., Alexandria Thees played at Sky View High School in Utah before finishing her high school career at Nation Ford High School under head coach Carrie Christian. As a setter she accumulated 1000 assists in only one and a half years at Nation Ford with a single-game high of 50. In Utah, her team was the state runner-up in 2017. In South Carolina, she led her team to two consecutive State Championship titles. In the classroom she was twice named to the honor roll and was a member of the Beta Club. Thees played club volleyball for CJV.

Erin Wyatt- OH, 5'11, Spring, Texas  (Klein Collins)
 
A native of Spring, Texas, Wyatt is a four-year letterwinner at Klein Collins under head coaches Amanda McMeans and Kasey Price. An OH, Wyatt recorded over 1,500 kills en route to being her team's kill leader for three consecutive season.  Wyatt was named the 2018 and 2019 Team MVP. She earned several district accolades including first team all-district in 2017 and 2018 and academic all-district in 2016 and 2018. As a multiple sport athlete, she was the 4 x 100 track and field regional runner-up in 2018. Off the court she was a member of the National Honors Society and Klein Serves. Wyatt played volleyball at Asics Willowbrook Volleyball under Janice Pressley.  
 
"Erin is a six rotation go-to player. She has the ability to create shots and sees the game. She can take big swings when the pressure is on. She is a true team player and a natural leader." Sally Polhamus
